Chapter Sixteen

ARRIO OPENED his eyes and blinked. “Kei? What is wrong?”

Kei sat at the end of his bed, his legs curled up under him, the moonlight making his white robe glow. “I could not sleep, and your door was open, and I thought—”

“Peace.” Arrio threw back the covers. “Get in.” Dainon had been gone for a week, and if he were honest, Arrio had expected to find Kei in his chamber a lot sooner.

Kei shrugged off his robe and climbed in, snuggling up against Arrio’s side.

Arrio shivered at the first touch of cool flesh against his. “Why are you cold?”

“I took Ranor for a ride, thinking it would help.” Kei wrapped his arms around Arrio and buried his face in Arrio’s neck. “You smell wonderful. All warm and safe.” He fell silent, and Arrio put an arm around him, drinking in Kei’s spicy aroma. The scent crept into his nostrils and played with his senses, until his shaft began to thicken.

“This is not a good idea,” Arrio murmured into Kei’s hair, catching the smell of salt and sea air.

“Why not?” Kei asked with a yawn, releasing Arrio and turning in his arms until Arrio’s chest met his back, the soft curve of Kei’s buttocks meeting his groin, where his cock rose eagerly to greet them.

Arrio sighed. “Because I thought we were serious about waiting.”

Kei twisted his neck to peer at Arrio. “We were. That is to say, we are.” He pulled Arrio’s arm over his waist and covered Arrio’s hand with his own. “This feels better. I could not sleep in that bed a moment longer.”

“Why not?” Arrio did his best to ignore his interested shaft.

Kei sighed into the pillow. “I miss him. I know that makes no sense, as we never shared a bed, but… I close my eyes and he is there, so real, I can almost reach out and touch him.”

Arrio said nothing. There was no point. He had felt the same every night since Dainon had left. “Do you feel he will return?”

Kei hesitated before responding. “I cannot see. My heart tells me yes, he will come back to us. My head has other ideas.”

Arrio stared at the ceiling. “I do not know if I can wait for him to make up his mind.”

Kei rolled over to regard him with wide eyes. “Why, what would you do?”

“Go after him.” Even as he said the words, he knew he would never do such a thing, not if it meant going against his fathers’ advice.

Kei arched his eyebrows. “And what would that accomplish? We have a saying in Vancor: ‘A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.’ If he does not wish to return to us….”

Arrio swallowed hard. “I wanted him, Kei, with every fiber of my being. I pursued him when I should have backed away. Perhaps I tempted him beyond his endurance, but I had to know if—”

“I know.” Kei stroked Arrio’s cheek. “I felt the same desire that you did. But we must be patient.
